UConn President Michael Hogan used his April 13 inaugural address to call for change at the university. He called for academic collaboration across disciplines, and for more partnerships with commercial interests in research.
University of Connecticut President Michael Hogan called for a multi-disciplinary, cooperative approach to research, and discussed the university's new academic plan during his inauguration ceremony at the Storrs campus.
"I ask that we work together to establish a solid union of our departments, colleges, and campuses," said Hogan, who has served as president since being named to the post by the Board of Trustees August, 1, 2007.
Trumpeters blared from the stage in the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts at the start of the ceremony, as men and women in black gowns and caps carried in banners for the university's individual schools, including Law, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Medicine.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees John Rowe and Governor Jodi Rell placed a silver collar with a medallion around the president's neck, formally transferring the presidency to Hogan.
