"It was a good speech," said senior Jade Amaeh. "He touched on a lot." Amaeh said she was not sure if multi-disciplinary work among faculty would have much impact on undergraduate students.

"This is the first inauguration I have been to," said junior Caresse Spencer. "You think it may be boring, but it was not."

"He spoke about unity," Spencer said. "I think that was a good way to start. He has this vision, to unify the university."

"A lot of the speech was not specifically geared towards students," Spencer said. "It was geared towards faculty or school leaders, but I know [Hogan] has been going around on campus getting to know students, so it was not a disappointment."

At the close of the ceremony, the UConn Marching Band fanned out across the hall, with the percussionists forming up before the stage, and some other musicians running to the back and sides of the auditorium. Members of the audience stood up and clapped along as the band played the UConn fight song.
